In My Merseyside Home: Wirral South MP Alison McGovern writes for the Wirral News, March 9

Wirral South MP, Alison McGovern

READERS may be aware that I’ve spent some time campaigning to see more young people in employment.

Perhaps the last place you might expect me to visit is the National Waterways Museum down the road in Ellesmere Port.

But last week I met there three young people who’ve just started work in the boat yard restoring and repairing the boats. They have been hired as apprentice boat makers with the help of Heritage Lottery funds. They are learning their craft whilst restoring the beautiful old boats for us all to visit.

It’s quite a vision for the museum to think that their role is not just to house old objects, but to train the next generation.

Action taken locally needs to be backed up by the government.

George Osborne is a Cheshire MP, and I wish he would take a trip to Ellesmere Port and realise the potential of our young people. And perhaps give us an early Easter gift of some support for other organisations to employ young people as part of the budget in March?
