A DAD has vowed to give up alcohol for a year to raise funds for Claire House Children’s Hospice.
Dave O’Brien’s daughter, Libby died aged two at the Bebington-based hospice in August 2009, after she was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma cancer at the age of 16 months.
Dave, 39, has pledged to raise as much money as possible in memory of his daughter.
He said: “Some people climb a mountain, swim the channel or walk the length of the country to raise money for a charity that is close to their heart.
“Because of a dodgy knee, a busy family life and because of my regular sociable alcohol consumption, I have decided to give up all alcohol and get on the wagon for 2011 in aid of Claire House.”
Dave, a law enforcement officer, will even be remaining dry for his 40th birthday in April.
He said: “I have no doubt that this will prove to be a massive personal challenge, particularly as this year I’ve planned a trip to Cape Town, my annual Dublin tour, many party invitations, the Royal wedding and not forgetting my 40th birthday celebrations.”
