MP aims to get park project back on track

WIRRAL South MP Alison McGovern met with senior civil servants this week to discuss the future of a park plan for the former Bromborough landfill site.

The site was to be transformed in to a recreational greenspace, with an iconic sculpture capitalising on views across the Mersey.

But the proposals were thrown into doubt last October because of cuts to the North West Development Agency.

Ms McGovern said she hoped the meeting with the Forestry Commission and other interested parties on Tuesday afternoon would get the project back on track.

She told the News: “This former industrial site is in desperate need of regeneration. Residents have had to put up with the disturbance of this landfill site for many years. They deserve to have it transformed into a community park and in to something they can now enjoy.

“This project would tie in with Port Sunlight, a village of international acclaim, and New Ferry, an area in need of investment and regeneration.”
