A WIRRAL church minister is sharing his experiences of earthquake-hit Haiti.
The Rev Marcus Torchon, who works at churches in Neston, Little Neston and Bromborough, has been in the UK on an exchange programme since 2006.
His immediate family were caught up in the devastating earthquake in Port-au-Prince and he returned home last month for an emotional reunion with relatives.
He initially feared his sisters, Eline and Janette, and elderly mother Deliverance, had been killed in the massive disaster, which has claimed up to 200,000 lives.
Rev Torchon will speak at a meeting organised by Wirral Trade Justice on Friday, March 12 at St Michael’s Church Hall, Gills Lane, Pensby.
He will give an update on the current situation in Haiti and talk about his hope that new links can be established between the UK and his home country.
Last month he said: He added: “It’s still early but I’m thinking about the possibility of communities here who may be interested in helping out in a tangible way, building a school or a clinic in Haiti.
“I’d like to look out for some schools and communities that may be willing to enter a relationship with schools and communities here.”
Rev Torchon, his wife Sylvia and son Jean de Luc will return to Haiti permanently when his exchange programme ends in 2011.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm.
