Volunteer cooks rustling up dishes from across the globe at Wirral Multicultural Centre on Friday

VOLUNTEER cooks are rustling up dishes from across the globe at Wirral Multicultural Centre.

This Friday the centre on Conway Street, Birkenhead will be awash with the smell of exotic cooking as women from the Wirral Change organisation prepare delicacies like Arabic fried bread (kameer), Arabic teas, tabbouleh and spicy aubergines.

There will also be home baking treats like fairy cakes and apple pie.

Volunteers from the Cascade Project, which is helping residents showcase their skills and talents, will be joined by professional chef Grace Adegoki, who will be demonstrating Šher ever-popular Afro-Caribbean cuisine.

Grace will be creating delicious flavours from such diverse ingredients as plantain, chilli and chocolate.

The cookery displays will be complemented by demonstrations of dancing from Thailand and Egypt and henna painting.

The Cascade Project will move to Leasowe the following day, where the community centre and adjoining 7 Waves Studios will resound to the vibes of West African drummers, Arabic and eastern dance, opera and show tunes.

The music will be accompanied by delicious Rock ‘n’ Roll burgers prepared by a volunteer chef.
