From Bootle to Bebington and back – woman walks to work for TravelWise Green Travel Week

SOME people need a coffee before they can even speak to their colleagues in the morning – but one woman completed a nine-mile walk before reaching her desk.

Dr Caroline Cooper, who works in Port Sunlight and lives in Bootle, is hoping the three-hour effort will encourage others to leave the car at home.

Caroline, 38, works as an Environmental Advisor at Unilever.

She completed her challenge as part of TravelWise Green Travel Week, which encourages people to use greener forms of transport.

She said: “We have been working with TravelWise for a number of years and they are always coming up with things that fit in with Green Travel Week. One of the things they suggested was getting people who live a fair distance from work to walk in.

“I thought it was something I could do and when I looked it wasn’t as far as I thought it was. I obviously had to get the ferry over the water though!

“The department I work in had a big push on it.

One person walked in from Wallasey and a couple walked in from Chester which is obviously miles further.

“I hope it will encourage people who don’t live miles away to do it. I really enjoy walking, it gives you a lot more time to think about things than you would get if you were in a car.

“Even if you do it once a week it has a big impact on your carbon footprint so you don’t have to do it every day. Walking is good for your health and it’s free, so you don’t have to join a gym.”
