Open day at Thornton Manor raises £6,500 for Age Concern Wirral

AN open day at Thornton Manor raised £6,500 for Age Concern Wirral.

Around 1,400 people attended the event earlier this month, which was the first time the house had been opened to members of the public.

The day included guided tours of the Grade II-listed manor house, walks around the gardens and cream teas in the lakeside marquee.

Lynne Hamilton, fundraising manager for Age Concern Wirral, said: “We were totally delighted with the day and thank the owners for Thornton Manor for allowing us to take over the house and gardens for the day.”

The event was held to raise money for a new wing at Age Concern Wirral’s Devonshire Resource Centre in Birkenhead, which will cater for younger dementia sufferers.
