Stephen Hesford and Ben Chapman, MPs for Wirral West and Wirral South respectively, have been among those to call on the Local Government Ombudsman to intervene.
A source told the News: “All over the country, there is frustration with the way local politics works, but in Wirral there is a desire to bring about change and break the mould.
“While the SAR is likely to be a major issue for any new party, there is a general belief that most aspects of local Wirral life would benefit from fresh ideas and impetus away from the straitjacket of traditional party politics.
“Our schools, businesses, public services and cultural assets would all benefit from a new sense of direction. In simple terms, this is about bringing voters in from the wilderness and giving them an exciting alternative at the ballot box.”
The new party is believed to be recruiting supporters, and is thought to be considering fielding candidates at the 2010 council elections and the next general election.
