Police hunt for rapist who struck in Birkenhead and Liverpool

POLICE are hunting a rapist who attacked women in Birkenhead and Liverpool, posing as a taxi driver and policeman.

The two rapes occurred two years apart but police are now able to confirm they are searching for one man, after forensic tests revealed he raped both women.

Both victims were 19.

The first attack happened in Tuebrook, Liverpool just after midnight on Sunday October 25 2004.

The victim had been assaulted by a group of girls, and as she staggered down the street a man in a silver Honda sports car stopped, flashing a police badge.

The girl got into the car and was driven to Jamaica Street, where she was raped.

The second rape happened between midnight and 1am on December 27 2006.

The victim left the Myrtle Pub, Old Bidston Road, Birkenhead and got into what appeared to be a taxi in the pub car park. But the man drove to an isolated spot and raped her.
