Misadventure verdict on Bebington holidaymaker found dead in Caribbean hotel room

A 32-YEAR-OLD auditor who booked a last-minute Caribbean holiday was found dead in his hotel room a day after arriving, an inquest heard.

John Sprowson, of Shavington Avenue, Prenton, flew from Manchester Airport to the Dominican Republic, alone, on September 11, 2007.

He arrived at his hotel, the Gran Paradis in La Altagracia, the day after booking the holiday as a last-minute deal.

The inquest was told that Mr Sprowson registered at the hotel, checked into his room and unpacked his suitcase, before heading out for the evening.

He returned to his room at around 2am on the morning of September 12, according to information contained on the hotel’s electronic key card.

At 3pm, later that day, a housekeeper entered the room to clean and found the deceased “fully clothed and lying on the bed”. He was unresponsive.

The body of the deceased was then moved to Blandino Hospital and the blood alcohol level was recorded at 300mg/dl, substantially above the UK’s legal driving limit of 80mg/dl.

Coroner Christopher Johnson recorded a verdict of misadventure.
