Former Wallasey foster carer Lily celebrates her 100th birthday

A FORMER foster carer celebrated her 100th birthday last Wednesday.

Lily Williams, of Wallasey, was raised as an orphan from the age of seven as her mother died and her father was away fighting in World War One.

After the war, her father returned home wounded and Lily looked after him.

She then worked for 33 years as a postmistress and brought up many foster children.

During World War Two she worked in Plymouth, but returned after the

war ended.

After retirement she spent many years doing voluntary work.

Lily, who now lives in Pensby, is well known in the community, particularly at Irby Methodist Church, and the Kylemore Community Centre.

Cllr Bob Wilkins said: “With her sharp mind and quick wit, she is still the life and soul of any party.”
