Bebington Oval pool finally set to reopen

TEST sessions will take place at Wirral’s flagship sports centre this week before its pool finally re-opens to the public on Saturday (November 29).

The Oval in Bebington closed in June last year and was due to re-open at several points throughout 2008.

A construction blunder in the summer initially saw only five lanes tiled into the pool, rather than the six required by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) for competitions to be held there.

At first the council said it would be too expensive to rip up the tiles and make the extra lane, but later decided to re-tile the pool.

The new pool and changing area incorporates accessibility features such as warmer water, a ramp allowing access to both pools, hoists and wheelchair storage.

Other aspects of the refurbishment, such as the development of eight new, short-side football pitches and the revamp of the main sports hall, are already open to the public.
