Bromborough Boys’ Brigade mark anniversary by planting trees

TO MARK the 125th anniversary of the Boys’ Brigade, the 1st Bromborough Anchor Boys section, has planted trees - ones they have grown themselves - at Dibbinsdale.

The event also commemorated the 25th anniversary of Dibbinsdale as a local nature reserve.

Andrew Clough, of the Bromborough Boys’ Brigade, arranged with Dibbinsdale ranger Peter Miller to carry out the planting in Tree Week, a national celebration of trees in the community.

Andrew’s group applied in the spring for free seedling trees from the Woodland Trust.

Peter gave them the pots - provided by Asda - and compost made in the walled garden at Dibbinsdale, and the tiny trees were grown over the summer.

Peter said: “This is a wonderful way of showing young children that trees are an important part of our heritage.”

Peter is undertaking a series of walks over the winter, looking at the heritage and wildlife of the reserve.

These are to start at the Dibbinsdale Inn, Dibbinsdale Road. The next one is on Sunday, December 7.
