Eastham dog
THE RSPCA has made a new appeal for information about an elderly dog found tied to a tree in Eastham Ferry Woods, Eastham.
Despite an appeal two weeks ago the RSPCA has yet to receive any tangible information about how the white Bichon Frise dog came to seemingly be abandoned.
A member of the public found the white female dog, which RSPCA inspectors estimate to be around 10 years old, at about 11am on Tuesday,October 14.
She was tied to a tree with a piece of rope and she had badly matted fur on her stomach, feet and back legs.
The member of the public took the dog to a local vet before contacting the RSPCA. On examining the dog the vet found she was also suffering from mammary tumours and decayed teeth.
RSPCA Inspector Leanne Cragg said: "We’ve still yet to discover how this poor dog came to be tied up alone in the woods.
"Luckily she was taken to safety by a vigilant member of the public else she could have come to serious harm, especially in this harsh weather.
"It’s possible she was deliberately abandoned or she could have been stolen and dumped. Either way she must have been very frightened and uncomfortable.
"She was not wearing a collar and had no microchip, so there’s no way of telling who she belongs to at this stage.
"Thankfully she is now recovering well in our care. Now we need to find out exactly what happened to her and want to hear from anyone who saw anything in the area, or who recognises her either as theirs or belonging to someone they know."
Anyone with information should call the RSPCA Cruelty & Advice Line on 0300 123 4999.
The dog is currently being cared for at the vets where she continues to receive treatment.
