Bebington man searches for identity of WW1 soldier

A VISIT to the World War One battlefields has prompted a man to try and identify an old soldier.

Thomas Owens, who lives in Huddersfield, wants to find details of the man who appears in this photograph with his father, George Owens, who lived in Birkenhead.

Mr Owens said: “My father served in the Cheshire Regiment in the war and lived the rest of his life in Birkenhead on his return home.

“I would very much like positive identification of the corporal sitting next to my dad and wonder if he survived the war.

“Dad was wounded twice and spent the last nine months of the war as a prisoner of war.

“Having recently returned from a visit to the battlefields where my father fought, the sacrifices the men made was very obvious.

“As another Remembrance Day approaches, I would love to be able to identify this man.”

Mr Owens can be contacted at 3 Royd Croft, Huddersfield HD3 4EQ.
