THE Oxton Society has handed out its annual design awards.
Each year the society makes an award to developments in the Oxton Conservation Area which exhibit good design and help to enhance to appearance of the area.
This year awards were made in two categories – residential and non-residential – and nominations came from members.
The residential winner was Wirral Lodge Cottage in Newburns Lane, which previously consisted of a residential wing adjacent to a barn/stables once used as a joiner’s workshop.
The work carried out included joining the two buildings with a glazed oak link incorporating an oak and stainless steel spiral staircase.
Christine Lesley Hairdressing won the non-residential category for bringing tradition back to its shop frontage in Christchurch Road.
Patrick Toosey, chairman of the Oxton Society, said: “The two winners are tremendous examples of what can be done to enhance the appearance of Oxton Conservation Area.
“They are examples of a commendable personal and commercial initiative and a way of properly enhancing old buildings.
“The society looks forward to developments of a similar quality next year.”
Winners were selected by a ballot of members of the Oxton Society.
