Wirral man chosen as one of Redgrave’s Raw Recruits in a reality TV show featuring Olympic hero, Sir Steve Redgrave

REDGRAVE’S Raw Recruits saw West Kirby joiner Luke McMurray pick up an oar for the first time for an ITV documentary.

He was one of more then 500 hopefuls who applied to take part in the reality rowing TV show.

An eight-man crew was chosen by Olympic hero Sir Steve to challenge the professionals at Henley Royal Regatta.

The 26-year-old beat off more than 500 other rowing hopefuls to take his place in the final eight, under Sir Steve’s tuition.

Doing the show has changed Luke’s opinion of the rowing world.

He said: “I used to think it was a sport for posh toffs, but now I have a massive amount of respect for rowers once I realised it was that hard.”
