TWO Wirral singers gave an emotional performance at the London 2012 Olympic Games closing ceremony.
Esther Smyth and Sarah Campbell shared the moment with other Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Choir members.
They joined forces with the Liverpool Signing Choir to perform a moving rendition of John Lennon’s Imagine.
The event’s music director David Arnold travelled to Liverpool to oversee the choir recording the Yoko Ono-approved remix of the classic anthem.
The youngsters wore Imagine T-shirts and Lennon’s face was assembled from blocks in the middle of stage.
Sarah Campbell, 18, from Birkenhead, whose performance was her last for the choir, said: “It was the best way to end an amazing seven years.
“Just to perform in the stadium was unbelievable. I didn’t really think about all the people who had watched us until the next day.”
Esther Smyth, 15, lives in West Kirkby and attends West Kirby Grammar.
Her mum Christine, 47, said: “We’re really proud of her and it’s a fantastic experience for all of them.
“She’s a big fan of Ed Sheeran and she saluted him and he saluted her back. “She’s also a big fan of The Beatles and John Lennon so to perform Imagine was overwhelming.”
