A WIRRAL shipbuilding firm is to be prosecuted over the death of a welder.
Robert Dunroe, 62, became trapped while driving a forklift truck.
Mr Dunroe, from New Ferry, was operating the forklift at Cammell Laird on Campbeltown Road, Birkenhead, on August 18 2010 when he was crushed against a lifting beam used on a crane.
He suffered multiple injuries and died four days later.
His employer, Cammell Laird Shiprepairers & Shipbuilders Ltd, is being prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive following an investigation into his death.
The company has been charged with breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The charge relates to failing to ensure the safety of employees.
The first hearing is due to take place at Wirral Magistrates’ Court in Birkenhead on February 2.
