Gymnast Beth Tweddle visits Birkenhead High School to inspire pupils in run-up to Olympics

WORLD champion gymnast Beth Tweddle visited a Wirral school to inspire youngsters to get involved in the sport in the run-up to the Olympics.

Beth, 26, gave an assembly to juniors at Birkenhead High School Academy on Monday and ran coaching sessions throughout the day.

The school will host an academy for four to 11-year-olds set up through her company Total Gymnastics.

During her visit, the City of Liverpool gymnast told pupils how she started her sporting career – and demonstrated some of the moves which won her three world championships.

She said: “I want to get kids excited about sport.”
