THE leader of Wirral Council pledged the authority’s main base would continue to be at Wallasey Town Hall after councillors agreed to spend £1.6m revamping it.
Cabinet members last week approved plans to spend the money on upgrading fire escapes and refurbishing the Civic Hall.
In 2009, the landmark building’s future looked uncertain after it was included in a review of all council office buildings in Wirral.
The town hall and its north and south annexes are one of the main office locations for Wirral Council.
Cllr Steve Foulkes said: “There is no doubt any more about where the civic headquarters of the authority will be for the foreseeable future.”
He added: “This always receives great interest when I am out and about.”
Cllr Foulkes said the improvement work would “give the building flexibility” and help to “keep people safe”.
