WIRRAL youth heroes will be honoured at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Following the destructive riots across the country last summer Wirral organisation Youth for Christ (YFC) decided to showcase those who do good in the community through the Wirral Youth Heroes Awards.
Organisers want News readers to nominate inspirational young people in the borough who deserve recognition.
Nominees must be aged between 11 and 19-years-old on February 24.
The awards ceremony will take place that night at Thornton Hall Hotel, hosted by Coronation Street actor Andrew Lancel.
There are nine categories to nominate and the overall winner will be given an iPad2.
The categories are: great sporting achievement, contribution to the arts, overcoming illness/disability, courage and bravery, enterprise, educational achievement, community action, inspirational volunteer, and young carer.
Martin Dickson from Wirral YFC said: “Wirral Youth Heroes Awards is a grassroots response to the riots which involves the whole community.
“The August 11 riots on the streets of Birkenhead showed us all that there is a problem and that it is close to home.
“But this is only a small part of the picture.
“Wirral is home to thousands of young people who are heroes and we want to find the most inspirational from amongst them.
“We want to publicly affirm and thank Wirral's young heroes for all that they do and highlight them as a small glimpse of the massive majority of young people in the Wirral.
“One of our biggest desires as an organisation is to work alongside others to support young people and encourage them to be the stars our community needs.
“Inspirational peer leaders who make communities prosper not just financially but in love, hope, joy, peace, kindness, and self-control.
“We believe every young person in Wirral has the potential to change their world for the better.”
The awards evening, which will include a three course dinner and live entertainment, is open to the general public. Tickets cost £35 each or tables of 10 for £325.
Businesses are invited to sponsor the event, for more details call Jaimie Fernihough on 07702 736998 or email jaimie@bigbluebox.biz
