Campaigners launch poster campaign against Tranmere Rovers FC's plans for training ground

PROTESTERS fighting plans to build on Tranmere Rovers FC’s training ground have launched a poster campaign.

Businesses and residents near the Ingleborough Road site, in Tranmere, are being asked to display the Heroes Not Houses signs.

Campaigners hope it will send a powerful message to Wirral council and the club, which wants planning permission for almost 100 homes.

Rovers hope to sell off the land to boost club funds and develop Woodchurch leisure centre as a team and community facility.

Protestors fighting plans to build houses on a World War One memorial field at Ingleborough Road, Tranmere, have launched a poster campaign

Although the proposals were backed by a leading supporters group, opponents believe the entire Ingleborough Road field should remain a memorial to former pupils of Birkenhead Institute who died during World War One, including war poet Wilfred Owen.

Campaigner Dean Johnson, founder of the Wilfred Owen Story, in Birkenhead, said: “We are trying to keep up the pressure and I hope houses and shops in Prenton and Tranmere will display them.

“It is a simple but powerful message. Every blade of grass in the field is a memorial.”
