Man in court charged with assaulting Wallasey pub landlord

A MAN appeared in court over an attack on a Merseyside pub landlord in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Keith Taylor, 33, of Poulton Road, Wallasey, made his first appearance at Wirral magistrates court yesterday charged with assault.

Police were called to the Rose and Crown pub in Poulton Road, Wallasey, at 8.15am on Sunday after a cleaner found the 44-year-old landlord injured in the bar area.

He was last seen by a member of staff at 2.30am, after the pub had closed following celebrations to mark the start of the New Year.

He was taken to hospital suffering a significant head injury but was discharged on Monday.

Staff at the pub said he was resting and needed to sleep but was expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

Police carried out house-to-house inquiries after the incident and are examining CCTV footage.
