Merseytravel operating free Christmas Day bus services to help staff and visitors get to Wirral’s hospitals

FREE bus services will run on Christmas Day to help staff and visitors get to Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge hospitals.

Merseytravel will operate a limited service on the 110X and 118X routes in Wirral. Other special services will run in Liverpool for hospitals in the city.

The 110X will operate from New Brighton to Liscard, Birkenhead, Bebington and Clatterbridge Hospital, and in reverse on the return journey.

The 118X will run from Mill Park through to Bromborough, Bebington, Woodchurch Road, Arrowe Park Hospital, Upton, Liscard and New Brighton.

The first buses will leave from around 12noon until 6pm. No other bus services will run on Christmas Day.

Councillor Mark Dowd, chair of Merseytravel said: “At this time of year we always think of those who will be spending Christmas in hospital, those who are working hard to support them and those with no other means of transport.”

A limited number of bus services on all major routes will run on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day from 8am to 8pm.

Mersey Ferries will operate every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. A bank holiday service will operate on December 27 and January 2.

The Wallasey tunnel will be open as normal throughout the holiday period but the Birkenhead tunnel will be closed in both directions from 10pm on Christmas Eve until 6.30am on Boxing Day.

No train services will operate on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

There may be timetable changes between Tuesday, December 27, and Monday, January 2.
