Birkenhead runner completes three marathons to raise £1,700 for charity

A BIRKENHEAD runner put his best foot forward for charity and completed three marathons.

Sean Britton took on the suchallenge after he was rejected for the fifth time at the ballot for a place at the London marathon.

He then applied to run in the Edinburgh marathon for Deafness Research UK – and his London dream came true after the charity found a place for him in the capital run.

But not content with running two marathons in the space of a month, Sean then registered to run the Liverpool marathon.

He said: “Although I was terribly disheartened by being rejected for the fifth time for the London marathon, I decided I didn’t want all my training to go to waste.

“So I got in contact with Deafness Research UK and applied to run the Edinburgh marathon for them. They got back to me and said there were also still places with them for London 2011, so I agreed I would run both.

“Running the London marathon was an especially massive personal achievement, but being given the opportunity to run two marathons for a charity so close to me made it even more worthwhile and gave me more of a thrill.

“I also recently ran the Liverpool marathon, which meant I could continue raising money to hopefully reach my end goal.”

So far he has raised £1,537 for Deafness Research UK.

He choose the charity after spending time with his deaf community as part of his studies.

Danny Whiteside, from Deafness Research UK, added: “The entire team at Deafness Research UK would like to congratulate Sean on completing three marathons this year.

“Running just one marathon for us would have been a fantastic gesture and a great support to our fundraising efforts, but by raising the bar to do three marathons and an outstanding sum of money, we can’t thank Sean enough.”
