Tranmere Rovers In The Community to help young people get back to work

TRANMERE ROVERS In The Community was awarded a grant to provide employment support to dozens of out-of-work young people across Wirral.

The club’s Rover Return To Work programme will run four courses over the next year, which should help out 64 unemployed young people aged 18-24.

The scheme has previously run six similar courses, achieving an 86% success rate with attendees going on to employment or further education.

With funding from the Jobcentre Plus Flexible Support Fund, the programme aims to help tackle the high rate of 18 to 24-year-olds who are not in education, training or employment.

Commercial sales manager Liz Dicastiglione said: “Our programme looks at the whole package of pre-employment and is designed specifically to give people on the course the skills and confidence they need to go into the world of work.”

Young people who attend the course will benefit from expert mentoring and employment support. They will also learn skills such as writing a CV and will have the chance to take part in mock interviews with employers.

Rovers manager Les Parry said: “Return To Work is a fantastic programme and both the management team and players are delighted to get involved.”

Young people on the course also have team-building days out, which have previously included trips to the Chill Factor ski centre, in Manchester, and Kensington Roof Gardens, in London.

Liz said: “These trips are aimed at building the young people’s aspirations and showing what is out there for them.

“Many have never even left Wirral, so it is important to give them an idea of the vast opportunities the world offer.”

Wirral employers are being asked to assist with the scheme by providing work experience and assisting with mock interviews. If you think you can help, call Liz on 609 3390.
