A SPIDER-man like burglar has inflicted thousands of pounds worth of damage on a Birkenhead off-license after breaking in through the roof.
The man in black, who was caught on the store's CCTV system, smashed his way through the ceiling and then appeared to lower himself down in to the shop on a rope.
His dramatic entrance in to the Freshway store on Borough Road triggered the shop's alarm, and at this point one of the burglar's accomplices passed a hammer down to him through the hole in the ceiling.
The intruder, who wore a black mask beneath a grey hooded top, then attempted to disable the alarm system with the tool, before fleeing the shop empty handed.
And the incident took place weeks after a similar raid in January when a man in black stole £10,000 worth of cigarettes and cash.
Freshway manager Richard Antonies suspects the most recent break -in was a planned job after there was an attempt to cut off the shop's alarm system 24 hours before the February 13 break-in.
He said: “On January 17 we had a very similar raid when a man in black came through the roof and stole £10,000 worth of cigarettes and cash from the shop. “
