All Star Wrestling return with Birkenhead show

ALL Star Wrestling is bringing its grappling dynasty back to Wirral next month.

Marking 40 years in the business, the Merseyside based family of promoters and performers are holding their first big local show of the year in Birkenhead's Pacific Arts Centre, pitting the best of British and American aggression against each other.

Providing two hours of action for less than a cinema ticket, All Star boast a blend of the family-friendly atmosphere of traditional British wrestling with the showmanship of their American counterparts.

Through the decades, All Star has fostered internationally renowned British wrestlers. ASW alumni Dave “Fit” Finlay and William Regal currently appear in the World Wrestling Entertainment franchise, and two-time ASW Tag Team champion Robbie Brookside has three times turned down a WWE contract.

Founder Brian Cox hosted his first wrestling event in 1970, and despite being robbed of his takings the very same night, pressed on to gain a presenting role on ITV's World of Sport wrestling segment. Helping to overturn a sixty year ban on female athletes in boxing and wrestling, grappling girls Mitzi and Rusty Blair performed for a capacity crowd at the Royal Albert Hall in 1987.

For children with aspirations in the ring, ASW also operate the All Star Training School in their new Bebington location, where girls and boys aged ten and over can learn from head coach and All Star Wrestler of the Year “Xtreme” Dean Allmark.

l All Star Wrestling visits Birkenhead Pacific Road Arts Centre on February 5. Tickets are available, direct from the Floral Pavilion, or on 090 6812 1884.
