POLICE pursued suspected cash in transit robbers down Arrowe Park Road yesterday morning, leading to three arrests.
Officers were alerted following the robbery at 8.15am on Tuesday, when four men approached security guards delivering cash to the Co-Operative store on Pensby Road, Heswall, armed with a sledge hammer and an angle grinder.
The men threatened a security guard before assaulting him with the hammer and grabbing the cash box.
They then stole more cash from the cash machine.
The offenders escaped down Fishers Lane in a silver BMW, before abandoning it for a black BMW 4x4.
This was spotted by police on Arrowe Park Road and a pursuit ensued, with the BMW clipping several cars before the offenders attempted to escape on foot.
One of the security guards was taken to hospital with minor injuries and both security guards were left distressed by the incident.
A couple of motorists who had been in cars on Arrowe Park Road, which were clipped by the offenders’ vehicle, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Three men were arrested and are being interviewed by detectives, while one escaped empty handed.
