CALLOUS, but very determined, vandals have been entering Storeton Woods at night and chopping down large trees with an axe.
Since the end of May, regular visitors to the woods estimate at least 12 birch and oak trees have been chopped down, with the felled timber just left to rot amongst the undergrowth.
Bebington resident Julie Scarsbrook told the News: “I noticed three all at once but I really don’t know who’s behind it.
“Just mindless vandalism is the only thing I can think of.”
The Woodland Trust looks after the land and a spokesman told the News police are currently investigating.
Julie added: “I’d like to see patrols increased and people should report anything suspicious.”
