Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology holds Blue Week to raise awareness of male cancers

BLUE is the colour at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology this week!

The centre is holding a “Blue Week” to raise awareness of cancers specific to men like prostate and testicular cancer.

In 2008 Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology treated 700 new patients for prostate and testicular cancers. Nationally, 37,000 men are expected to be diagnosed with a male specific cancer.

Blue Week started on Father’s Day, last Sunday, with supporters taking part in the Liverpool Triathlon.

Blue Week will draw to a close on Friday with “Blue Day”, which will include blue-themed fundraising activities. Specialists will also be at the centre between 10am and 3pm to provide information and answer questions.

Proceeds from the week will be used for research into pioneering new treatments for male cancers, including the Gold Seed Marker Project.

The technique involves the markers being implanted into the patient’s prostate, enabling medical staff to target the prostate gland more precisely during treatment.
