A LIBERAL Democrat purge of “dissidents” within its ranks appeared to be threatening the stability of the party in Wirral.
Cllrs Phil Gilchrist and Pat Williams have been called for meetings with the local party hierarchy over their abstentions on a vote last month, which would have given the Tories control of the council.
Cllr Gilchrist is understood to have attended with a prepared statement, but Cllr Williams refused, insisting she had not broken party rules
Several Lib-Dems have already faced disciplinary action over their opposition to the Strategic Asset Review (SAR), which recommended shutting the 11 libraries.
