CHARITY walker Brian Macintosh says his 150 mile trek from Wallasey to Oxford is “the best thing he’s ever done”.
The father-of-three left the Oxfam store where he has volunteered since being made redundant, with a few essentials, a tent and a sturdy pair of shoes.
His mission was to walk to the birthplace of Oxfam to raise funds for St Hilary’s Church in Wallasey – and the charity that helped turn his life around after being made unemployed.
Brian, 32, told the News his trip was “amazing”, but it wasn’t all plain sailing. Not long after leaving, he encountered some trouble with his ankle. Brian said: “I did it the day after I left, I don’t really know how, it just felt uncomfortable and was swelling up.
“I just thought, I’m on my way now, I’m getting closer, I may as well keep going.
“And on the Tuesday, I knew if I went to sleep it would just seize up so I thought I’ll go through it, and walked through the night to get to Oxford for 7am.”
Brian arrived two days early and was immediately checked over by Oxfam’s medical staff, before being taken to hospital to treat his badly sprained ankle.
Brian raised £1,100 and he already has an eye on his next charitable venture – a golf day at Wallasey Golf Course.
