Take part in sports demonstrations at this year’s Wirral Show

VISITORS to this year’s Wirral Show will be given a sporting chance to have a go at a range of physical activities they may never have tried before.

Taster sessions on everything from gymnastics, trampolining, volley ball, athletics, rowing and martial arts will be on offer courtesy of Wirral Sports Forum.

Melinda James, Club Development Officer and secretary to the Forum, said: “We are providing a one-stop-shop where people can try their hand at a range of sports under the supervision of experienced coaches.”

There will be demonstrations by members of eight Wirral sports clubs and members of the public will be invited to join in.

The Wirral Show, now in its 33rd year, is one of the UK’s biggest free-to-enter attractions and is at New Brighton on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 11-12 July.

Sample consent forms are being sent to all Wirral schools. Forms may be downloaded from the Wirral Show website at wirralshow.com. They are also available from the Sports Forum office at The Caretaker’s House, Grange Road West Sports Centre, Birkenhead.

Wirral Sports Forum was formed last year and is open to any sports club or association in the Wirral area. The Forum meets quarterly to share information and to discuss the members’ needs. When appropriate the Forum advises Wirral Council on the collective opinion of local sporting groups.

Michael Emberton, chairman of the Wirral Show, said: “This is an exciting new feature of the show and we believe it will have huge appeal especially to young people.

“I urge them to pre-register from 10am each day to take part in the Sports Forum’s programme of activities. We anticipate high demand.”

Wirral show is organised by Rotary, Lions and Round Table clubs with Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council. Financial and practical support is from Merseyrail.
