ANDREW Collinge is bringing traditional cut-throat shaving to Heswall, with the expansion of his Telegraph Road salon.
Beauticians and hairdressers have been trained in the art by Frenchman Daniel Rouah, who has been in-store over the last month to observe and instruct.
And a new annex has been created to house the male grooming services, 25 years after Andrew first opened the salon.
He said: “Men have always been around 15 to 20% of the business and it was growing at a considerable rate when the opportunity to expand the premises became available.
“We’ve extended into next door and the shop has been fitted to give a Ralph Lauren-type feel, with leather chairs, sports news on the television and great finishing.
“Once we had decided to have a dedicated male salon and men’s grooming, everyone asked whether we were going to do traditional cut-throat shaving.”
Among the first to go under the blade were Heswall’s firemen, who took half an hour out of their day to give their new next door neighbours a little extra practice.
Andrew said: “It’s one of those things, not many people have had it but everyone says they would love to try it if they had the opportunity.
“The response has been amazing.”
The price for the full service is £25, which includes the shave, preparation with hot towel and aftercare.
