Wirral author Peter Lupson celebrates football book’s second print run

WIRRAL author Peter Lupson is celebrating further success after his latest book Across the Park was commissioned for a second publishing run.

The former schoolteacher has already earned national plaudits with his first tome, Thank God for Football!, which charted the emergence from church roots of some of the country’s biggest football clubs.

That book found a ready audience in the sport’s broad community, leading to the restoration of Everton and Liverpool FC founder Reverend Ben Chambers’ grave and even a change to Swindon Town’s shirt, as research revealed the club was celebrating its anniversary in the wrong year.

But it was Peter’s work on the origins of Liverpool and Everton that prompted Reds chief executive Rick Parry to encourage him to delve further into the clubs’ shared history.

Peter said: “Rick Parry liked the chapter about Everton and Liverpool, with the reconciliation between the two clubs after the acrimonious split, and asked if I was willing to write a book that developed the theme of harmony and goodwill between the clubs.”

And now, two months after first hitting the shelves, Across the Park has sold out its first print run of 2,000 copies, and a second edition has been commissioned.

We’ve got two copies of Across the Park to give away, just answer this simple question: What is the name of the park that separates Anfield and Goodison Park? The closing date is June 3, usual Trinity Mirror rules apply.

Alternatively, order your copy now for only £6.99 by calling 0845 143 0001 or from www.merseyshop.com.
