MOTORISTS face the prospect of five months of roadworks on the M53.
The Highways Agency plans to spend £7.5m installing new lighting and safety barriers between junctions 7 and 8 of the motorway in Ellesmere Port.
Workers will also refurbish two railway bridges during the work, which starts on May 26. It is expected to take five months and finish in November.
The agency has assured drivers much of the work will be done at night with two lanes open in both directions during the day.
The M53 will occasionally be closed completely overnight but there will be information signs in advance and diversions.
There will also be a 50mph speed limit and the slip roads at Junction 8 reduced to one lane throughout the work.
