Oxton man swaps student life for two-week training stint with Royal Navy

A ROYAL Naval Reservist from Oxton swapped his life as a civilian for a fortnight in the Royal Navy as part of his training for future deployments.

Able Rate Paul Mannion, 23, became a member of the Liverpool-based Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) unit HMS Eaglet last September and has just completed a two-week logistics course at the Defence Maritime Logistics School, based at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.

The course gave Paul the skills he will require to operate in a forward logistics site, supporting Royal Navy operations all over the world.

He will now be required to put his news skills into practice during a full-scale military training exercise before joining the RNR trained force and, therefore, be available for deployment.

In civilian life Paul is a medical student at Edge Hill University.
