Tony Kenwright

Name: Tony Kenwright

Age: 58

Location: Wallasey

I WORKED as a press photographer for over 25 years during which time I received numerous awards for my work.

My whole career has involved images, whether as photographs or as fine art. I’ve always drawn and painted but started to take art more seriously in the early 90s when I began creating works for commissions and selling paintings through local galleries.

My work has been regularly exhibited and received a number of commendations. My most recent exhibition was in The Rathbone Gallery in Birkenhead late last year, where I sold a number of paintings and received positive coverage both in the local press and on Granada Reports.

In 2008 I quit press work to divide my time between running my own photography business and rebuilding my reputation as an artist.

I paint quickly, often mixing colours on the canvas to add vibrancy to the work and will often spread paint with the edge of a credit card or my fingers rather than a brush. My choice of subject matter is unlimited but, as a photographer, I see no point in painting a photographic reproduction of a scene, preferring instead to bring my own visions and feelings into the work.
