THE first fruits of Wirral's only weekly run pottery course have produced wonderful results and are on show at the Rathbone Studio, Birkenhead.
Students who have been attending the Rathbone Studio pottery session are having their first exhibition showing the talent and creativity that is thriving in the Wirral.
The pottery workshops have been running since the Studio opened in May last year on the site of the historic Della Robbia pottery. The course has been so successful that there is a waiting list to join, so high is the level of interest in the Wirral for pottery .
The exhibition shows the work of the students, some of who were absolute beginners. Janet Holmes, the owner of the Rathbone Studio, said: “The wonderful motivation for me after 30 years as a tutor is seeing the students’ blossom and start producing such amazing pieces.
"The pottery sessions have become a haven for people to escape the pressures of day to day life and find such pleasure in creating their own artwork. I believe we still have a childhood yearning to place our hands into different textures and only ceramics offers this.”
The exhibition opens on Friday, February 22 and visitors are welcome to come along and meet the students and talk about their work on display. Janet will also offer ‘have a go’ session through the afternoon and evening.
The 'Potty about Pottery’ open day is on Friday, February 22 from 3pm–7pm and the exhibition will be open Tuesdays – Saturdays from 3pm-6pm until Saturday, April 13.
