John Ankers and wife Katrina
THE wife and close friends of a man who was found dead days after learning he would lose his job today paid tribute to him.
John Ankers went missing from his home in Woodchurch, Wirral, on Sunday, sparking a huge search by family, friends and police.
The 28-year-old’s body was found in woodland near Arrowe Park hospital on Wednesday morning.
He was said to have been depressed after finding out he would lose his job at Blockbuster, in Birkenhead, following the collapse of the DVD rental firm.
Today, his devastated wife Katrina and close friend Brian Granby described John as “a rock to his loved ones” and released treasured new pictures of him to the public.
They added in a statement: “John Ankers was an amazing person. He brought so much happiness into so many different lives.
“An amazing friend, a loving family member, and the most importantly a best friend and husband to his wife.
“Everyone will miss you John, but you will live on in so many different people’s happy memories.
“It’s incredible how many different lives you have touched and will continue to shine on.”
Katrina, 27, who married her husband in September last year, first realised something was wrong when he did not arrive at work on Sunday morning.
After raising the alarm with police, dozens of friends joined in the search for John and made emotional appeals for him to get in touch.
After the search ended in tragedy, many left flowers and candles near the site where John’s body was found – just minutes from his home. Friends who set up a website to raise money to give John the best send-off possible and have so far raised £2,300.
Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious and a post-mortem was due to be carried out yesterday.
