Your Gallery: Jenny Watts, of Gayton

AFTER attending Wirral Grammar School for Girls 2004-2011, I am now in my second year of studying BA Fine Art (Hons) at Lancaster University and hope to become established as a successful practising artist.

I am a passionate individual who is constantly thriving on experience and finding out new ideas and new ways of doing things.

I am currently working part time as a volunteer at the Bluecoat Gallery in Liverpool and the Peter Scott Gallery in Lancaster University, gaining experience in the artistic working environment.

I also host a weekly hour-long radio show on the university’s station, which may be something I wish to carry on afterwards and pursue as a full-time career.

I have always been fascinated with exploring “beneath” and seeing the effects which this could bring – the possibilities of going that one step further. With this in mind, I have found myself exploring abandoned urban environments and structures which frequently go unnoticed. I want my art work to reveal the truth to people and educate them in a certain way. I am exploring the exterior and interior within my work.

I am mainly creating my works through the layering of drawings, photography and sculpture presented in installation form.

I aim for my work to be understood as exploring space and what space can do; why it is so variable and hidden in some circumstances. I have previously focused on people’s emotion within and their reaction to abandoned spaces. I now want to move forward into exploring the easily missed and the unseen.
