X Factor’s Christopher Maloney cheers up Clatterbridge Cancer Centre patients

X FACTOR finalist Christopher Maloney was all smiles when he cheered up cancer patients in Wirral.

The Liverpool singer, who has started rehearsals for The X Factor tour, said he felt “humbled” during the visit to Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Bebington.

Christopher, 34, was invited to see the newly refurbished Mersey Ward and found out how it would benefit thousands of people every year.

He said: “I was so overwhelmed that the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity invited me to visit. A lot of my family and friends have been affected by cancer over the years.

“I felt so humble to be asked to visit the unit and hopefully put a smile on patients’ faces.”

Christopher, who came third in the contest, spent time talking to patients and staff about the work of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

Emma Doolan, ward manager, said: “The new ward is fantastic and it really allows us to offer care to our patients in the best possible environment.

“Everybody has worked so hard to get to the ward up and running and we were proud to have been able to show Christopher the end result.”

The refurbished Mersey Ward provides equipment and facilities for patients and their families.

It includes a triage area and medical assessment unit which will enable patients to access essential, life-saving treatment for side-effects associated with cancer treatment.

The Mersey Ward, which was partly funded by the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, also provides activity and quiet rooms.

The rooms are for patients and their families to use during their time at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust treats more than 27,000 patients throughout the North West.
