Wirral mum found out son had rare skull condition by looking up symptoms on internet

A WIRRAL mum found out her child had a rare skull condition which could have left him brain damaged by looking up his symptoms on the internet.

Kelly Walker’s son Tyler, now three, was born with a ridge at the front of his head but the mum-of-eight said she was told there was nothing wrong with him.

As Tyler grew older Kelly and her partner Michael Vicary, from Wallasey, became concerned his development was delayed and he had difficulties with speech and balance.

When Kelly typed his problems into online search engine Google she discovered it pointed to a congenital skull condition called trigonocephaly.

Last year he had an nine-hour operation at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool to reconstruct his skull.

Kelly, a full-time mum, said: “Tyler was quite slow in crawling and sitting up and everything he should have done at that age.

“At first we were told he would catch up eventually. It was frustrating and I knew there was something they were missing.

“He was normally very good but on the day I looked it up he woke up like a totally different child and he was lashing out.

“When I finally settled him down I said ‘something needs doing’ and I went on the internet.”
