Wirral council by-elections take place this week on Thursday January 17

VOTERS will go to the polls in two Wirral council wards this week.

By-elections will be held in Heswall and Leasowe and Moreton East following the deaths of councillors Peter Johnson and Anne McArdle.

Conservative Ian Lewis is campaigning hard to try to regain the Leasowe and Moreton East seat which the party lost last May to Labour, who put forward actress Pauline Daniels as their nomination.

Other canididates include Daniel Clein for the Liberal Democrats, Jim McGinley for the Green Party and Susan Whitham for Ukip.

Also hoping to make an impression in Leasowe is Mark Halligan for Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts.

The same party put up candidate Greg North in Heswall, where the Tories have selected Kathryn Hodson. Barbara Burton is standing for the Green Party, along with Mike Holliday for Labour and David Scott for Ukip.

Polls are open on Thursday, January 17 between 7am and 10pm.
