Wirral Arts: Wirral coastline in the frame for a new exhibition

THE Wirral coastline is in the frame for a new display being organised in the borough.

One year on from her first exhibition, Jude Lloyd-Johnson is back with a fresh collection of work called At Second Glance.

As a photographer, she focuses on taking images of West Kirby marina and Hilbre Island.

Jude has continued her creative theme of tearing up photographs which she then stitches into a composition, creating striking pieces of multimedia artwork.

Jude’s work is on display at Staacks in West Kirby until February 15.

The artist and school teacher lives in north Wales and this is her second exhibition at the gallery.

She said: “My inspiration comes from places in Wirral, mainly Hilbre Island and West Kirby Marina, where I take photographs. They are then incorporated into the artwork.

“I am fascinated with Hilbre – I love going there – and I like wind farms. I think they are very interesting.

“My work incorporates photography, stitch and the reconstruction of familiar scenes.

“The resulting images invite the onlooker to investigate again and again to discover something new each time.

“This time I have incorporated coloured threads into some of the pieces, giving them pops of pink, blue, yellow and red.

“I have also done a few slightly abstract pieces where I have taken photographs but worked paint into them and different mixed media.

“The photographs have been torn up and stitched together so they are not recognisable unless you look at the picture very closely.”

Jude has a degree in fashion and textiles and more than 12 years’ experience in art and design.

Kara King, from Staacks, added: “Jude has developed her work since her previous exhibition.

“She has taken her photographs to more abstract expressions of the places which spark her imagination and evoke an emotional response.”
