Liverpool flats caretaker draws cartoons to message his tennants

A CARETAKER at a Liverpool housing block has come up with a novel way of posting messages to his tenants – by drawing cartoons.

Instead of writing warning notes to residents about keep keeping the noise down or not to drop litter, dad-of-three Grant Mutter dashes off colourful comic-strip style illustrations.

The 27-year-old from Wallasey who has been a caretaker at Bispham House in Lace Street, Vauxhall, for a year, said he has been sketching cartoons for as long as he can remember.

Grant told the ECHO: “They’re just doodles to me – I’ve always used cartoons as a way of commenting on a situation or getting a message across.

“Everyone has their own style, but for me, I always try to keep them funny, colourful, and with impact.

“I think the tenants are much more likely to pay attention to what I have to say if there’s a bit of humour involved, even if it is sometimes smutty.”

He said the inspiration for drawing comes from what’s been happening at the block, and it takes him just 15 or 20 minutes to finish a cartoon.

University students live in Bispham House along with private tenants but some of his cartoons are clearly directed at the former.

He added: “Like any bunch of students, they can be a bit noisy and make a mess when they’re having a party.

“Rather than leave them angry notes which they would just ignore they actually listen and pay attention when it’s a humorous cartoon.”
