Wirral record shops selling Hillsborough charity single

SHOPS across Wirral have seen a rush at the tills as the Justice Collective’s reworking of He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother makes its bid for number one in this Sunday’s chart.

The single is now the bookies’ odds-on favourite for Christmas number one.

Gennaro Castaldo, from HMV in Birkenhead, said: “We are seeing huge demand for the single (pictured), not just in Merseyside.

“Online He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother was the number one most pre-ordered title.

“We really need the public to get behind us and the single and to buy as many copies as they can.”

Mike McCartney, Gerry Marsden, Paul Heaton and conductor Vasily Petrenko all contributed.

Paul said: “The single could not have turned out any better.”

Mike added: “As a dad who was scheduled to be at Hillsborough, my plans were changed and instead me and my young son attended a Dr Who performance. It could have been us.”
