Five-year-old from Irby gets royal treatment from Monarch Airlines

LEADING scheduled leisure airline, Monarch, gave a five year old boy from Irby an unforgettable Christmas treat when he spent the day with them at Manchester airport.

In October, five-year-old Joshua Anderson wrote a charming letter to Monarch Airlines’ Managing Director, Kevin George, telling him how much he loves ‘Monoc’ planes with a lovely drawing.

The letter led to Joshua being invited to spend a day at Manchester airport to see what goes on behind the scenes and learn some more about Monarch's operation.

Joshua’s day started with a trip to the Runway Visitor Park, arranged by Manchester Airport, and continued with a trip round the airport.

He then joined Monarch flight crew for a pre-flight briefing and went on board an aircraft before a flight, the highlight for him being given the opportunity to sit in the captain’s seat.

Lunch was followed by a full tour of the Monarch Aircraft Engineering hangar to see some aircraft undergoing maintenance and the chance to sit in an engine.

Joshua had permission from his school for the visit and his head teacher, from Dawpool Church of England Primary School, said what a great educational opportunity it was for Joshua and how much she was looking forward to him sharing the highlights of his day with the rest of the school.

Monarch Airlines’ Managing Director, Kevin George, commented: “It was lovely to receive Joshua’s letter and a pleasure to host this visit to Manchester for him as a Christmas treat.

"He was such a lovely boy and thoroughly enjoyed his day learning more about Monarch aircraft and the airport and we are sure he will remember it for a long time to come.”

Monarch airlines expands its already extensive offering of flights from Manchester with the launch of three routes to its new winter ski destinations of Friedrichshafen, Grenoble and Innsbruck on December 15 and 16.
